Marshallese families across Arkansas proudly celebrate Jemenei Day — Marshallese Constitution Day — honoring the adoption of the Constitution of the Republic of the Marshall Islands in 1979. In the islands, this national holiday is celebrated at the beginning of May, but here in the United States, communities gather during Memorial Day Weekend, turning it into a four‑day celebration from Friday through Monday.
Jemenei Day recognizes the Marshallese people’s journey toward self‑governance after decades of foreign administration and nuclear testing impacts. Today, it’s a vibrant cultural festival filled with sports, music, dance, food, and community pride — a powerful reminder of resilience, identity, and unity for the thousands of Marshallese who now call Arkansas home.
